Scuba Refresh is for certified divers who want to return to the water with confidence. If your last dive was months ago, years ago, or you simply feel rusty, a structured morning pool session helps you settle back into your equipment, buoyancy, and safety habits before your next ocean dives.

We tailor the pool session to the skills you want to focus on.

When you feel comfortable, you enjoy diving more. Hesitation with equipment, buoyancy, or emergency procedures can pull attention away from the reef and the marine life in front of you. We strongly recommend a refresh before cenote dives, deeper profiles, current, or several days of diving.

Should I take a refresh?

There is no single rule for every diver. Some people feel sharp after a year away; others prefer a check-in after a few months. If you are unsure, a Scuba Refresh is usually a good idea — especially before cenotes, deeper dives, current, or several days of diving.

This is not about judgment or starting again. It is a practical way to make your first dives back feel calmer, safer, and more enjoyable.

How the morning works

We begin by assigning you an SDI Refresh eLearning code (we will need your full name, date of birth, and email). Do not worry if you were certified with PADI, SSI, NAUI, or another agency — your refresher does not need to be with the same agency that issued your original certification.

Arrive at the shop at 08:30 on your refresh date with the theory completed when possible. If you did not get a chance to go through it before arrival, we can print materials here at the shop.

Many guests add two shallow afternoon reef dives on the same day.

Once you have reviewed the theory with your SDI instructor, we drive you to the pool to practice. We cover the important basics from your Open Water course — equipment setup, buoyancy, mask skills, and safety drills — then spend extra time on what matters most to you.

You will finish at the pool by around 11:00.

Afternoon reef dives (optional add-on)

Many divers book two shallow afternoon reef dives in Playa del Carmen on the same day as their pool refresh. You can add this when you book online at our standard Playa del Carmen afternoon rate.

Equipment for the afternoon dives is not charged separately when you add them with your Scuba Refresh booking — we treat that gear as covered by your refresh reservation.

Safety and enjoyment go together

Your instructor coaches you through the skills that matter most.

A diver who is comfortable with their gear, confident with buoyancy, and clear on emergency skills can relax, look around, and appreciate turtles, schools of fish, and the reef itself.

Our instructors are experienced SDI and PADI professionals. We keep groups small so you get real coaching time, not a rushed run-through.
