About us

Since 1990, Tank-Ha has built a solid reputation for quality and safety.

Today, our team continues to build on this reputation by delivering excellent training and dive experiences.

Our team

We are an international team and passionate about scuba diving and we love to share this passion with our clients. Many of our non-diving team are actually certified divers and go diving in their free time.

Pioneers of Cozumel Direct

Dive boat in the Cozumel Marine Park
La Bestia is one of the boats we use for our Direct-to-Cozumel service. We took this photo during the surface interval while over in Cozumel.

Back in 1997, Tank-Ha became the first dive shop to operate a direct trip straight to the world-famous reefs in the Cozumel Marine Park. Since this time thousands of divers have appreciate the convenience of this service, saving the time and hassle of the public ferry.

By using the direct service we are able to maintain our high standards since we send our instructors with you to Cozumel, rather than relying on a third-party shop based in Cozumel to provide the service. This also means that if you are learning with us (for example the Advanced Open Water course) our team of instructors are able to accompany you on dives in Cozumel to seamlessly continue your course.

In 2016 we introduced La Bestia as new boat to meet the increased demand for the Direct-to-Cozumel service.

What does Tank-Ha mean?

You’ll see “Ha” mentioned a lot in the area. “Ha” is Mayan for “water”, so that was easy. We had to get a little creative for the other word… “Taam” is Mayan for “Deep” but we took a little poetic license and decided to go with “Tank” instead, which is a little more relevant to us as divers. But, if you squint your ears, “Tank-Ha” almost sounds like “deep water” in Mayan

High quality equipment

Our commitment to quality doesn’t end with the instructors we use. We also invest heavily in providing and maintaining scuba equipment from premium brands.

Our Apeks regulators use the DIN connection (popular with Tec divers) for increased reliability and many have integrated dive computers from Suunto.

Our masks from Cressi and Beauchat cover different face shapes and sizes. These premium masks use premium silicone which is soft and therefore can mold perfectly to your face.

Our Zeagle BCDs have integrated weight pockets and come in a variety of sizes from S to 3XL. Our Cressi BCDs also have integrated weights and cover sizes 2XS S.

Our Cressi wetsuits are 2.5mm thick and and cover sizes XS to 3XL. We have both full and short wetsuits and also have some thicker (5mm) Cressi wetsuits which are perfect for the cooler water in the cenotes.

The C word

COVID-19 had a devastating impact on the dive industry worldwide and Playa del Carmen was no exception.

You can find out more about the effects of COVID-19 and how we are operating safely through the pandemic on our dedicated COVID-19 information page.
